Common causes

  • https://enterpriseregistration.windows.net isn't reachable from the device in the system context.
  • An outbound proxy that the computer account can't discover or silently authenticate to.
  • The device has no stable route to the internet when the join task runs.

How to fix 0x801C001F

  1. On Windows 10 1803 or later, run dsregcmd /status on the affected device and read the Diagnostic Data section (it appears only on a domain-joined device that hasn't completed hybrid join).
  2. Confirm the Error Phase is discover and the client error code is 0x801c001f.
  3. Allow https://enterpriseregistration.windows.net through the firewall and proxy for the device (system) context. See Microsoft's network connectivity requirements for hybrid join.
  4. If you use a proxy, make sure the computer account can discover it and authenticate silently.
  5. Retry the join and confirm the DRS Discovery Test now passes in dsregcmd /status.
