ESP Triage Checklist

Short answer: when the Enrollment Status Page fails, first find which phase failed (device setup or account setup), then check whether ESP is really tracking the app, then read the logs in this order: the mdmdiagnosticstool CAB, the ESP tracking registry keys, and the IME logs. The checklist puts every step on two pages.

What's inside

  • Device phase vs user phase: how to tell which one failed and whether a phase was skipped on purpose.
  • App tracking: the three conditions ESP needs to track an app, and the InstallationState values to read.
  • Where to look: the log, event channel and registry path for each symptom, with the Microsoft Learn source.
  • Every command is read-only. Collect evidence before you reset or wipe anything.
